A Caecal Volvulus Case Due to Acquired Anatomic Abnormality

Caecal volvulus is a result of rotation or torsion of mobilized caecum and ascending colon. It usually makes 1-3% of intestinal obstructions. Due to rarity and variable manifestations, clinical resolution may be prolonged and this may put patients into a risky status. In this study, we will discuss the clinical findings, diagnostic techniques and treatment options in caecal volvulus while presenting a 41-year old female patient who was admitted to the emergency department of our hospital with increasing abdominal pain. Moreover, we will review the pathogenesis and preventive strategies. The aim of this study is to arise awareness to this condition in differential diagnosis of intestinal obstruction.
