Active vitamin A metabolites known as retinoids are essential for reproduction, growth, vision, play important roles in regulating proliferation and differentiation in both fetal and adult tissues. Retinoids are used in the treatment of dermatological disease such as acne and psoriasis, for treatment of various forms of cancer. However, its potential teratogenicity was seen in newborns following exposure in early gestation to retinoids.
