Objective: Substance use is increasing currently in Turkey and problems arising from substance use are becoming increasingly difficult to solve. Substance addiction is a chronic recurrent disease, characterized by coercive use of addictive substance despite its harmful effects to the individual and society. It is thought that the rate of adherence to treatment, and staying in treatment is low in the treatment of addiction. The aim of our study was to determine information about treatment attendance rates and treatment discontinuation rates.

Material and Method: One-year follow-up of 404 patients, who applied to Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine, Alcohol and Substance Addiction Treatment and Research Center, between 01.10.2017-31.10.2017 for one-month period, and continued treatment for at least 3 months, until the date of 30.09.2018, was performed retrospectively by examining files.

Results: The mean age of the 404 patients included in the study was 28.71 years. The youngest patient was 14 years old and the oldest patient was 68 years old. 92.3% of the patients were male (n =373) and 7.7% were female (n =31). It was observed that the majority of the patients presenting to the outpatient clinic had opioid use disorder in a rate of 85.9% (n =347). Considering the treatment attendance rates of 404 patients included in the study, substancefree patient rate was 79.9% (n =323) in the first 3 months period, and decreased to 44.5% in the 12-months period.

Conclusion: According to the results of the study, it is observed that, treatment attendance rates decrease over time. Since substance dependence contains a lifelong risk-bearing process, it should be ensured that success can be increased by using various training and psychotherapy programs.
