Objective: Linea aspera, which is in the form of an irregularly thick ridge with a longitudinal course on the femur, is an important origin and intertio point for the muscles of the region. The main function of linea aspera is to stabilize and support the femur while walking and running. Moreover, it prevents bending of the femur against stresses and loads. The anatomy of the linea aspera is important for various surgical procedures. The aim of this study is to assist in orthopedic interventions and radiological examinations by demonstrating the diversity of these anatomical structures and their osteometric measurements.

Material and Method: In this study; the length of the linea aspera, the distance between the endpoints of the extensions separated from the linea aspera and the length of 42 dry femurs were measured using a measuring board and calibrated standard caliper.

Results: Of the 42 dry bones measured, 22 (52.3%) of them were right femur and 20 (47.6%) of them were left. The distance between the separation point and the endpoint of the three extensions of the linea aspera was found to be significantly related.

Conclusion: Linea aspera should not be ignored in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases caused by adjacent muscles, tendons and neurovascular structures. For this reason, we believe that knowing the morphological features of linea aspera will help clinicians. In addition, no other study examining the three proximal extensions of linea aspera has been found in the literature, and more comprehensive studies are needed.
