Peripheral intravenous catheter applications are an important part of nursing interventions. A 52-year-old male patient applied to the emergency department with complaints of pain and stiffness in the left wrist and vascular access cannula on the back of the left hand. After the tests were performed in the emergency department, a Cardiovascular Surgery consultation was requested and it was decided that there was a need for surgical intervention regarding the vein that had a complaint. The cardiovascular surgery department performed a superficial venous exploration with a 1.5 cm incision on the dorsal side at the level of carpel bones on the left hand under local anesthesia. The thrombus was removed from the vein via an incision made on the superficial vein. The incisional vein was repaired primarily. This case was presented to emphasize the importance of follow-up during peripheral intravenous catheterization applications in hospitals and to draw attention to the cost of the problems and complications that threaten patient safety.
