The Investigation of Depression and Anxiety Level of Chronic Hemodialysis Patients According to Different Variables |

Hemodialysis is the most common method to apply in patients with chronic renal failure. Depression and anxiety are the most pervasive psychological
problems and widely relationships in this patients. The aim of this study is to investigate the depression and anxiety level of chronic renal failure
patients according to different demographic variables who take medical treatment in hemodialysis units. This study included all 59 patients (32
female, 27 male, mean age=47.27±13.55 years) who had undergone hemodialysis treatment in Siirt and Batman State Hospitals Dialysis Units. t-test
and Kruskal Wallis H-Test were used to analyse data and p<0.05 accepted as a significant. In this study which the Beck Depression and The Beck
Anxiety Scales were applied, it was seen that there were high depression score in 15.3% and high anxiety score in 28.8% of patients. Depression and
anxiety scores of the patients were significantly and positively correlated with the education levels. The results of this study reveal that hemodialysis
patients tend to exhibit depression or anxiety. ©2007, Firat University, Medical Faculty
