Evaluation of the Patients who Presented Emergengy Department Complaining of Diarrhea

Objectives: Diarrhea may be of nonspecific, unknown etiology or bacterial, viral, parasitic, or toxic etiology it’s a problem not only developing countries but also developed country. The aim of this retrospective study was to acces patients who were up to 15 years old.

Materials and Methods: This study presented emergency depertmant complaining of diarrhea between January 2005 and December 2005.

Results: It was determineted 167 (76.5%) nause, 136 (62.4%) vomiting, 139 (63.8%) abdominal pain as a the most common symptoms.It was found 44 (20.2%) patients with fever. The parasites that were found and their prevalence is G. intestinalis 11 (5%), E. histolytica/E. dispar 5 (1.8%).

Conclusion: Although the ratio of the patient that admitted to the emergency department with a complaint of diarrhea is not so much high, but the symptoms to death. So we emphasized on the clinical importance of personal hygiene, providing clean water and food, establishing substructure, increasing the education of public health about prevention of the infections. ©2007, Firat University, Medical Faculty
