Evaluating the 0-18 Years Old Cases Autopsied between 2001-2007 in Elazığ

Objective: In this study it is aimed to determinate in 0-18 age group death cases in our county and its vicinity.

Materials and Methods: In this study, 204 cases of 0-18 age groups cases whose dead examinations and autopsies were done as retrospectively according to the age, sex, origin and death reason between 2001- 2007.

Results: A total 925 cases were 204 cases in 0-18 age group. Of the total of 204 cases 19 (9.3%) subjects who were only examinated in postmortem period and 7 (3.7%) subjects with no identified cause of dead were excluded from the study. A total of 178 subjects who was included into the study. It is fixed that the examined 178 events included 95 men (53,3 %), 83 women (46,6 %), the average age is 9,1±2,9. The accident is commonly seen as origin 115 cases (64,0%) and suicide, murder and death from natural reasons follow this. 164 of the cases (92,1%) died from unnatural reasons and 14 of the cases (7,8%) died from natural reasons. Where as the traffic accident are the first in the unnatural death reasons.

Conclusion: The majority of childhood unnatural deaths are caused by accidents especially car crash. Therefore to reduce the number of the child death, some extensive efforts must spend to reduce the number of traffic accidents and some preventive measures for child must take. We believe that diagnosis in medical units and widespread medical treatment will considerably reduce the number of childhood death.
