Renal trauma rates for approximately 3% of emergency admissions related to trauma. Most cases resolve on their own, but blunt renal trauma can present a range of conditions from simple renal contusion to renal pedicle avulsion.
We present the case of a 59-year-old female patient with a history of polycystic kidney disease who was evaluated in the emergency department with impaired consciousness following a car accident. Bilateral nephrectomy was performed. Our aim was to present the post-blunt trauma mortality of a bilateral polycystic kidney disease patient, which we believe is rare in the literature. |
