Evaluation of Surgical Ward Nurses Professionalism in Their Work, in Denizli

Objective: This research was conducted for the purpose of evaluationing factors which affect the professionalism of nurses who work on hospital surgical wards in Denizli province municipality.

Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectional study. The research population was 340 surgical nurses who work in the university and public hospitals in Denizli province municipality. The sample included 214 of these nurses who agreed to participate and were not on leave on the days the research was conducted. The data were collected between June and July 2007 using the Professional Attitudes Inventory developed by Erbil and Bakır.

Results: Higher scores from the Professional Attitudes Inventory were obtained from nurses who loved their profession, were pleased to be working in their profession, thought that they had good communication with other team members, believed that they could completely work as nurses, and who worked as charge nurses. The differences between these groups were found to be statistically significant (p<0.05).

Conclusion: For the purpose of evaluating which the professinalism of nurses who work on public hospital the factors should determinate and new arrengment should make these subject as a periodic performance check why do nurses want to leave nursing, why nurses willing and unpleasantness.
