Originating from sympathetic ganglia, ganglioneuromas are composed of mature ganglion cells, and are encapsulated homogenus tumors of posterior mediastinum. They typically affect children over 3 years of age, adolescents, and young adults, and are very rare in older patients. The treatment is complet surgical excision. Here we report a case of ganglioneuroma in a 62- years-old male patient who had mild chest and backache. Computed chest tomography revealed a well-circumferenced homogeneous, 4x3cm right upper mediastinal paravertebral solid lesion. Following complet excision via thoracotomy, the definitive diagnosis was reported as “ganglioneuroma”. Although very rare in older patients, ganglioneuroma should take a place in the differential diagnosis of posterior mediastinal masses. ©2007, Fırat University, Medical Faculty
