Foreign bodies within the appendix are uncommon but well described. A water-melon seed was found in the appendix lumen after the operation in a 9-year-old boy who was admitted with signs of acute appendicitis and a foreign body in the right lower quadrant of the abdomen on plain abdominal x-ray. The case was presented for its rare aetiology. Surgical intervention may be offered for the foreign bodies in the right lower quadrant which may lead to appendicitis, even if they are asymptomatic. ©2006, Fırat Üniversitesi, Tıp Fakültesi
